it er didn't go due to 2 to 4 metre high waves.

4 m waves between Pattaya and Hua Hin ?

Swell maybe.... ?

Real waves :

Great fun, except if it last for 4 or 5 days.....Biscuits and sandwiches only....

What with the Thai Navy vessel shadowing it on every trip you have to assume someone wants this to work.

Apparently the dock in Hua Hin is 6 km out of town so given the time to get to and from the ferry two people could do the journey as fast for the same price in a taxi.

The transport manager may disagree with this.

It just doesn't make sense to me when a better solution would be to advance the development of U-Tapao airport and have regular flights to Hua Hin from U-Tapao. The discount carriers routinely fly back and forth from UT to U-Tapao for less than 1000 Baht advance purchase so surely someone could figure out how to do it to Hua Hin for that cost or less.

I was told the dock in Hua Hin was the one in the middle of town, I have seen a Navy boat moored there ? But reading here it's 6km out of town.

If it's from Walking st to Hua Hin central I can see why or would work, but if it's 6km out of Hua Hin that's aggro... Also a boat trip is a holiday event, airports you would need to be there an hour early it's 40 mins there etc...

Time and customers will tell...I would like to take my bike over , saves all that Bangkok traffic .. Bike week would see a lot of customers I would think ... I heard only foot passengers ?

Well I live in Hua Hin and information about where it is docking is just so confusing.

The pier close by the Hilton would be the natural choice and is certainly not 6Km from the centre of town.

It would however be ideal for Al McReady and any other of our beloved BMs lodging at Jings

The thing is I have read 2 articles that mention Saphan Pla pier which is north Cha Am and 32 Km from central Hua Hin.

If indeed it is the pier at Cha Am then add on another 30 minutes minimum to get into Hua Hin.

Another fact is that Cha Am is not in Prachuab Khirikhan, it is in Petchaburi province which would further confuse me on the benefits of this service saying it is serving Hua Hin.

Of course Cha Am would be ideal for Thai tourists from Pattaya as Cha Am is the choice of Thais when they visit the west gulf. Hua Hin is mainly for Farang tourists so maybe the ferry is not aimed at us.

Could it be aimed at the Chinese ?

When Elvis was with us there were 3 Navy boats anchored off shore offering a semi circular exclusion zone. This zone was very close to the Hua Hin pier that many believe/hope the ferry is docking at.

The Navy boats are no longer there which offers a view that the Hua Hin palace may not be used as it previously was but may be still be a reason why that pier has mostly only been used for fishing boats and the restocking of the royal naval protection contingent.

No way that thing is going take bikes or cars.

Similar as those who do HKG-Macau.

Hi Matty.

Closed similar I can see in France is near my place, not far from Bordeaux.  20 min ferry or 210 km on the highway (+toll)

http://www.bernezac.com/passages_eau_royan_verdon_uk.htm

You will note, at the end of the web page, fare for one passenger is 3.20 Euro , i.e. 120 THB for a 20 min travel

Now lets say that Pattaya - Hua hin is 2 hours, means 6 x 20 min, fare should be 19 Euro = 720 THB

That's with Western cost, but also, I admit with some government subsidies.

Nevertheless, 1200 THB seems VERY expensive.

Just for your info there is a very comfortable 24 seater bus that leaves Pattaya north bus station everyday at 11am. Cost 400 baht.

Return is same time, 11am, from Hua Hin bus terminal back to Pattaya.

Probably more comfortable than the taxi, seats wide with good leg room. As I said only 24 seats. Bookable through Bell Travel Service.

We used this and after a couple of episodes of the driver breaking sharply on the journey from Hua Hin to Swampy  I was a little uneasy but when he took a wrong turn leaving the airport and started reversing up the highway I wished I'd got a taxi.

That is unusual, never had a problem and Porn and I have taken that bus to the airport and Pattaya many times without issue. Porn has also travelled that route alone with Kataleya and most recently 10 days ago.

You have just offered the death knell for the service for all future members lol

Got shares in the ferry mate.

I'm absolutely sure that our experience was abnormal,  I mean he's not going to get away with reversing up the highway every day.

It was just one of those days.

The ride we hired from Buffalo Bill's got stopped by the police on the way to the bus.

I jumped off at Swampy to use the toilet and grab a quick cig and on my return to the bus they were insistent the bus was full and I couldn't get on.

Can't remember the detail but something strange happened on the journey from the bus station in Pattaya to View Talay 2.

Yup, definitely one of those days.
