CP which owns the master franchise for 7-11 is also a majority shareholder of True. So they stopped selling  1-2 call top ups.

I wondered why , I would guess it's a poor decision as if a person goes in to buy a phone top up they may buy something else, consumers are creatures of habit....

A few have those orange top up boxes outside ,

Which carrier do you roll with?

I like DTAC.

AIS my number starts 0800 ... I have given it to people before and some thought it's a wind up...as 0800 is a freephone number on Mud Island

Used to be AIS then changed to TRUE because it also works where I stay in Vientiane.

I don't care that much who it is. When I arrive at the airport I just get a package at one of the kiosks which gives me calls and a bit of internet.  Most places have wifi these days (hotels, restaurants/bars  etc) As long as I can make and receive calls for 3 weeks, I am happy   I think I got a TRUE package last time and that was fine.   I would like to know whether there is any provider where you can keep your number without topping it up regularly.   I end up changing my number every time I visit.

Obviously, if I were an expat then I would look into the best deals for a mobile contract

I have always used DTAC.

I have never had a contract, always bought pay as you go.

Presently I pay 119 baht a week plus VAT. That gives me unlimited mobile data plus unlimited calls to DTAC which is beneficial as Porn, her mum, her sisters and brothers are on DTAC.

My mate Andy also has DTAC whilst on his extended holidays so it's a worthwhile deal for me.

AIS, 12Call, for me.  Top up at the machines if I need to extend validity, from Family Mart if I'm in one or from my Bangkok Bank account.

I'm on the same dtac number I got probably 10 years ago- but don't ask me what it is!! Just make sure I have a year's worth of " credit" when I leave the country, and it's always been live when I return. I then buy some internet credit to cover my stay at the counter in the airport.

I do all my top ups online with my Kasikorn account. I also have an online account with DTAC.
Before each trip I have a look at what the best data/internet package is for the time I am there. I then top up the phone with the required credit and then log into my DTAC account and activate the package.

I use the Bangkok bank app to send credit to DTAC. Takes about 30 seconds.

DTAC also has the best app it's one of the reasons I use them. Also roaming outside Thailand works well with free inbound SMS.
