The Vietnam War, A Film By Ken Burns

Yes, the documentary has been mentioned on here a few times, he really hit the gold standard with this series of films. You can see them on YOUTUBE, it was on PBS Excellent viewing.

Under 300 Baht ... And Good!

Did a Sunday roast at Nicky's once with Alex, it was very nice.

Is the hotel still there, stayed at the Maleez once, it was OK. I also ate at the 18 Coins one time and enjoyed the breakfast and the staff were lovely. Only ever had the 98 baht special breakfast in the Retox on Lengkee which was OK but would like to pay more for a better cooked breakfast. If I remember rightly the better cooked (normal) breakfast in Retox was quite a price.

Had to give your post a green thumb, I couldn't find the brown tongue.......lol

Even with my need for small meals I think I would avoid the standard breakfast and go for the English breakfast at 175 baht. Then again I would go to the Rockhouse for a decent breaky at a very competitive rate.
  6. As much as we have our very own board member offering on site (well nearby) updates this travel advice has been put out by the UK Government and contains quite a lot of pertinent information for anybody traveling to the region including many phone numbers etc etc. https://www.gov.UK/government/publications/mount-agung-eruption-information-for-british-visitors-to-bali?utm_source=4627c840-e7e3-4d38-b1ea-fd42352c06b3&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications&utm_content=immediate

    VAR

Got to say that Lampard and England were a little disappointed in a goal being disallowed, VAR would have given it..... For years people have been calling for goal line technology, the ability to take another look at very divisive issues (some with financial repercussions) etc etc and now we get it people deciding they don't want it. I am in favour of it as I really don't think it matters whether people are celebrating for seconds or not, if it makes sure the correct decision is likely to be offered then I am all for it. Just a personal decision.

    VAR

I actually think that Var is making the game more exciting and is probably doing the pundits out of a job. I am all for making the right decisions and if it takes a few more seconds to stop a lifetime's debate then so be it.

    Champions League Qualifying draw

Have to say all the champions of each league should not have to go through group stages. The thing though is that the CL format is based on other criteria and that is why teams like Celtic need to qualify. Not fair but I am not in the committee that decides these things.

Do you like a good curry?

I tried an Indian curry a couple of months ago, it tasted quite good but did have the ability to stop me drinking as I was so full, I actually was hurting yet the portions were not massive. I haven't always had good results after eating a curry so I tend to stick to Thai curry's, my particular favourite is yellow curry or Masaman. I ate a lot of Indian food (mostly vegetarian) when I was married to my ex wife, British of Indian heritage. Her mother did cook me Tandoori chicken among the lovely paneer curry and dahls etc, I seemed to cope with her mother's cooking so much better than foods served in Thailand so maybe I will stick to those dishes.

I would expect that the only ones who should accuse anybody of being a retread are those with the software to do background checks. All others should just go with the flow until a person is outed or fouls up in an obvious way that is against the rules. Unless that person is creating a problem on the forum I would leave well alone. I do worry that genuine new members are put off if they are accused by all. It is a pity that the existing software does not highlight retreads before they start posting but if the system can't and there is no overall policy of banning all retreads (which we have many) then just let them carry on and deal with the posts as we should with any new member.
