Tomb Raider 3: Campario In Siem Reap

Recommended Posts

Prelude

When I saw pics of Angkor Wat I thought: just some old stones, look at one temple, you have seen them all.

I was wrong.

I combined a border run with the trip. First thing I did was to look for some tips on ther internet. Heard before it was suggested to take a bicycle as it would be too much to walk around.

Well, on the internet they said: forget the bike, rent a tuktuk, as the temples first of all are a couple of km away from the town and there are hundreds of them, all over the area. The furthest I visited was 37 km from Siem Reap.

So GF and me flew with Airasia to Siem Reap, paid the 30$ visa fee (GF doesn't need the visa), got the visa and headed to the hotel.

Part 1: Siem Reap - The hotel

The tuktuk transfer was arranged by the hotel and included in the price. First thing you notice is that they drive slow compared to Thailand.

Never felt endangered by other drivers.

The hotel was new and close to the action (400 m Pub Street, 200 m night market).

It was small but otherwise not that great. Would try a different one next time.

We had a beer at the Red Piano, which was the favorite place of Lara so I heard. It was ice cold and drinkable.

Part 3 - Angkor Thom - The Bayon temple

Thought we are done already? No, I am just getting started.

Angkor Thom is a large complex of many temples not far from Angkok Wat. The main temple being the Bayon with its faces.
