This new hotel down Soi 15 is where Mrs Thinkingallowed and I are staying on our short trip to Pattaya.

First impressions are a mixture of hey this is really nice and I can see some of this place was rushed to get it open.

Here's a few pics of the room, will write in more detail later.

Aye that is a strange one. Tiger for 63 Baht isn't bad though.

Have to remember to use the vouchers for complimentary drinks we got at check in.

Went out at eleven and remembered to do the thing that makes a symbol light up to tell the maid to make up the room. Came back three hours later and it's not done but looks like we are next.

So we take the opportunity to go sit round the pool and take up the hotel's offer of a free cocktail. Named after the hotel the Azure Lemonade is a pretty looking drink but just a bit meh really. There's nothing to like or dislike about it. We had to move from our first table as there was a bad smell around which turns out to be a broken toilet.

This place has definitely been rushed to get open and to be honest it is starting to leave a bad impression.

The restaurant has two buckets catching water dripping from the ceiling.

The workmanship in the toilet is terrible. I was teaching our youngest how to use a silicone gun last week and his first attempts were better than some of this and he'd pretty much mastered it after two days.

There were pictures of Central when it was first build that gave rise to rumours it would fall down.

Contrary to those rumours and Mango's wishes it is still standing.

Done a few contract claims on some large hotel new builds.

The problems were:

  • opening date is fixed long in advance
  • construction procureemnt progress doesn't match expectaions
  • lack of control over subcontractors
  • possibility of liquidated damages for late completion
  • lack of quality control (too many punch list items)
  • insuffient phasing control both in completing per trade per room and by floor / zone

All of which leads to a mad rush towards the end of construction, flooding the job with bodies and opening before the work is actually completd.

Of course not so easy to get the Contractor back to finish the work and close out the punch list items. Shame really becasue with a bit of thought and effort they could have had a first class product.
