What, for having them? For having them and not carrying them? Could you explain what 'in line' with Bangkok means.

Cheers

I downloaded Genius Scan application on BM Mangosteen's recommendation, so now I have colour scans of all my documents, passport, work permit and driving licence at a press of a button on my phone.

You'll need the real thing mate. I envisage a lot of farangs going to jail in the next few weeks. Maybe never to be released.

I have never heard of a problem with anyone not being acceptable by producing a copy of your documentation, worst case scenario is you may be requested to produce the originals at a later date?

That was with the BIB. The Army are the army. Absolute power.

They will be building the holding cages as I type this. I expect a week or so in jail for not carrying a passport and deportation after that.

If you're lucky.

No mate. I lived in Nigeria when the army took charge when Abacha died.

Not a pretty sight. I wont go into details but... we can only hope they take mercy on us.

started saturday night on 2nd road, even got a snap of it as I wa going by . later got a taxi from a notrious stand where they usually demand upward of 100 to foodland. satruday he asked for 40 baht, I gave him a tip ;)

There's one thing consistent about Thailand Tommy Dee is it's inconsistency. When you're lined up waiting for the firing squad you can bring this point up.

Looking grim I must admit.

According to Thaivisa anyway.

No need to worry says Bangkok Immigration Commander

BANGKOK:-- [thaivisa.com] After the confusion surrounding the news that all foreigners in Thailand are required to carry their passport with them at all times, Thaivisa.com has today obtained official clarification on this matter.

Earlier this afternoon, Thaivisa.com spoke to Deputy Commander and Police Colonel Voravat Amornvivat, a senior official at Immigration headquarters in Bangkok.

Deputy Commander Voravat wanted to reassure the expat community in Thailand about the current situation.

He told Thaivsia.com that information in an article published by The Nation on 31 July 2014, was incorrect.

Deputy Commander Voravat confirmed that foreign tourists and expats do not need to carry their passports with them at all times.

He said that tourists can of course leave their passports locked in their hotel safe and enjoy their holiday in Thailand without worrying about the need to carry their original passport.

Deputy Commander Voravat also said that for expats living here, a Thai driving license or photocopy of your passport can be used as a form of identification.

However, if Immigration Police suspect an individual to be overstaying in Thailand or being involved in illegal activity, then the individual would be required to produce their original passport promptly.

[...etc.]

Sadly though the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in this country as has been proven so many times. FWIW I now carry my passport all the time even though I have a 5 year Thai driving licence just in case.

Good advice mate.

The left hand should know what the right hand is doing here. Both are in the cookie jar.

Yes, agree. I figure that they'll probably escort me back to the condo to produce it in that case though. There's no way I want to be carrying my passport around all over the place here!

I'd doubt that Ray. You will be in a cage with another 50 farangs. No water or food, sweat oozing out of every pore and scared to sleep in case you get crushed to death. When they process the other 500 they will get around to you.

LOL! If they start enforcing this I doubt I'd have to worry about a cage on Soi 9. They'll need to commandeer a midsized hotel to house all the people they sweep up! party-smiley-048.gif
