Christmas Dinner Options 2017

Recommended Posts

In terms of that sweet spot between quality and price, the Hard Rock Cafe is looking like the best deal this year.  Take a look at the info in the OP.  It's where I'll be eating on Christmas Eve.

To clear up some confusion about the price of this year's Santa Rock Christmas Carvery Buffet at the Hard Rock Cafe:  it is 899 baht, inclusive tax and service. This year the HR is requiring pre-payment.  I have erased any identifying info from the invoice.

HR-cafe.gif.a72e2806f78c192e8f83cff18480

That's the SAME price it was last year without the free flow of booze option.  In 2016, I paid 1,389 baht, but that included the free flow of booze.  Without it, the cost last year would have been 899 baht.  This year,  there doesn't appear to be a free-flow option.

I tried asking about the difference between the Santa Rock buffet and the BBQ buffet but unfortunately, I haven't got an answer back.  I believe the only difference is that the BBQ buffet includes beef skewers and seafood.

Breaking news-  Chik-n-Coop Bar in the arcade next to Soi Diana is offering a  Christmas buffet at 500 baht, turkey and all the trimmings.. For anyone who's had Coop's holiday meals. it's great value for money.  Coop told me tonight he has 55 places left.  So if you want a great Christmas dinner on Dec. 25  American Style, call in at Coop's.  It's a better deal than any of the fixed-plate options.  It starts at 6.00 p.m. on the 25th, get there by 5.30 p.m. if you want to be assured of a seat.

Just a question I asked earlier, are American turkeys on the menu again or still boycotted, anybody know?

Also Evil, am I blind and can not see the name of the place selling the first deal above?...... I can see Robin's Nest on the second menu.....

The one with no name is from The Haven on Soi Lengkee.  I recognise it as I photographed the same thing.

There's also one on the previous page with no name that I could see.  Next to Cherry's menu.

Last time I bumped into Evil he was in Phil's nice little gaffe Le Pub eating a pie and mash I seem to recall.

Has young Baggie Phil got a Christmas menu I wonder ??

Really good thread I'm just not a fan of carveries or far worse for me buffets. A good carvery is rare in the West let alone LOS.

I will be up country in Isaan so if young Thinkingallowed wants to fly over a sad and lonely turkey I'll send him  few Baht. Fella just opened a goat farm as well nearby.

Jamaican Goat Curry for Christmas hhhmmm :trink38:...spicy and nice in cold London but nah maybe not in Isaan !!!

A few points regarding Christmas dinner in Pattaya.

1) If you have booked at Jolly's for Christmas or are considering it, you might want to check with the restaurant to see if anything has changed recently regarding the Christmas carvery. This ONLY concerns Jolly's.  I don't know anything about the ownership structure of Jolly's, but one of (the?) owner(s) of Jolly's has a lot more to worry about than providing Christmas dinners to customers.

2) Several restaurant owners have said advanced bookings for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are way down compared to previous years.  Whether this is due to fewer farang tourists in town or prices for Christmas dinner have reached the tipping point is hard to say.  But I've been told by someone with insight into such matters that restaurants which in past years were fully booked by early December still have plenty of spaces with 10 days to go.

3)  Another more expensive option:

Untitled-12.jpg

4)  Some details about the dinner at Chik-n-Coop (home-made fudge!!! C5aDjrRz_bigger.jpg )

Coop.JPG

Another great thing about Coop's meals is that he always has som tam and other Thai dishes so that Thai female companions have food they like.  They can nibble on a bit of turkey or ham and try a spoonful of dressing to say they have eaten farang Christmas dinner, but then fill up on familiar food.

Oops, sorry about that.  It's The Haven on Soi Lengkee.

From what I understand, frozen turkeys are being imported from the U.S., but are very expensive this year.

Alex mentioned Sunny's Restaurant on the Darkside in another thread,  so I'll include it here.  I've never been to Sunny's, but Alex knows his food.

This one isn't a Christmas dinner per se, but it's holiday related and carries a great price:

Untitled-1.jpg.189066e9428e4accee8e9345ba585dd4.jpg

Aroi on the Darkside could be a good option for those who don't want a traditional U.K. or U.S. Christmas dinner two days in a row:

On the Darkside yet again for Christmas dinner. but in the traditional style:

'Tis the season to be jolly- but not at Jolly's.  I read a post on another board from a reliable source that it has been closed for good after a police raid Saturday night.

Sorry to see such a venerable restaurant finish, but the food there had been sliding for awhile.  The last meal I had there was disappointing to say the least.

One more option at the Centara Azure Hotel on Soi 15 between The Avenue and Soi Bukhao:

I don't have any info on Christmas dinner yet, but the Butcher's Arms on Soi Bukhao is now open again after renovation and has offered a traditional Christmas dinner in the past.

As said, Jolly's Restaurant and the Piss Stop Bar are closed and won't be reopening for Christmas.

A few more options at the budget end of the Christmas dinner scale:

The Yiam 3 at Sutus Court on Soi Bukhao:

Untitled-1.jpg

Under point 3, it should read, "Roast turkey served with roast potatoes and vegetables."

Next door to Sutus Court on Soi Bukhao at the Queen's Arms (formerly The Coins), a three-course Christmas dinner with turkey and Christmas pudding costs 750 baht.  At the Devonshire on Soi Lengkee, a three-course ditto-above is 769 baht, but you can order it by the course (150 for starter, 499 for main, 120 for dessert).  Sorry, I don't have pics of the menus.

This is anecdotal and take it with as many grains of salt as you like, but I've heard most Pattaya restaurants still have seats available for Christmas dinner.  Bookings are said to be off from previous years;  only a few restaurants are booked out.  Whether this is due to fewer tourists this year or prices for Christmas dinner passing the threshold of pain is impossible to say.

The cheapest I've seen so far for a decent Christmas meal is Coop's all-you-can-eat buffet at the Chik-n-Coop Bar (details in a previous post).  However, be aware it's U.S. style and there's no Christmas pudding if that matters to you.  But for turkey with all the U.S. trimmings, it can't be beat.

Hell, just spend 600,000 IDR (1,400 THB) for lunch with the Miss in an 3 star hotel near the pool.   Bloody  LDOP I am.... Decent, but nothing exceptional.

Have an idea already about Xmas dinner or lunch, but need to transfer some pension money first....hahahaha

600 b for Christmas....not included the Leo beer of  course....:flower:

My kids loved the prices of things in Bali and were fighting over the bills in an effort to get the highest one to show their mates at school. I think the winner was 18,000,000 for the three bedroom villa for a week which was excellent value for the location, quality and a pool right outside shared with only a couple of other villas. I remember a meal that was 2,500,000 too.

Indonesia and Vietnam, one.is always a millionaire...

Should have the pic somewhere of the money when I did the final payment on my rental here. 55,000,000 knowing the biggest note is.100,000 .

And the ATM will give you max 25 or 30 notes at a time (technical limitations of the.drawer) and limit your daily withdrawal a 5 Mil.... Need a bit of logistic.  Haha, even borrowed 25 Mil from the.Miss....

ps : rents are payable one year in advance.....95 Mil for me....

Going Retox Game On for Xmas day lunch. Initially booked RHT but decided to relocate given the recent developments.

Would go Sunny's but on the darkside and probably full of kids as family oriented.
